biography

Fırat is a Senior Research Fellow. He is an incoming Summer Fellow at the Centre for the Governance of AI (GovAI). Previously, he was a Research Fellow at the Future Impact Group, researching AI sentience, consciousness, and digital minds. He has been an Oxford Global Priorities Fellow at the University of Oxford's Global Priorities Institute and the Forethought Foundation for Global Priorities Research; and a Lecturer in Philosophy at Koç University. He is the Founding Director of Effective Altruism Türkiye and provides advisory support to AI Safety Türkiye. He is also the founder of Poedat, an independent academic community. His work has been supported by Coefficient Giving, the Effective Ventures Foundation, the Centre for Effective Altruism, and the Survival and Flourishing Fund. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Warwick, with a thesis on effective altruism.
