Our recommendations
Power for Democracies is continually expanding our portfolio of high impact civil society initiatives around the world.
Effectively countering authoritarian playbooks
As part of our ‘Effectively Countering Authoritarian Playbooks’ project, our researchers have identified civil society initiatives that are particularly effective at offsetting harmful authoritarian threats. These threats to democracy may include civil society repression, the politicisation of courts, and undermining the rule of law, amongst others.
We began by identifying countries where democracy requires special attention, and where active civil society organisations have the potential to strengthen democracy. Our analysis of democracy tactics revealed the most promising measures in each country. We then evaluated organisations that are effectively implementing these tactics and took into consideration any gaps in their funding.
Three examples from our current portfolio of high impact civil society initiatives are below for download, along with an accompanying bundle of supporting research to dive deeper. We'll be continually adding to the portfolio in the weeks and months to come.
How to support our portfolio of recommendations
We are building partnerships with donation platforms so that supporters around the world will be able to contribute to these high impact initiatives with ease.
While we work to expand our partners which can process donations, our partner, Effektiv Spenden, has a Defending Democracy Fund for residents of Germany or Switzerland.
