Our research
We analyse and identify highly relevant and promising opportunities to defend and support democracy.
Democracy worldwide faces complex challenges. Institutional funders, civil society organisations, researchers, and policymakers need reliable evidence on what is happening, what interventions show promise, and where resources might have impact.
Power for Democracies fills that gap.
Through applied research, we identify where democratic institutions are under pressure, examine which interventions have demonstrated effects, and develop tools for assessing this work. We share what we learn openly.

What we do
Landscape analyses: Assessments of democratic challenges and potential responses in specific countries and regions. These reports examine where democratic institutions face pressure, which tactics are being employed, and what intervention approaches might be relevant.
Evidence reviews: Systematic examinations of research on specific democracy support tactics. We synthesise what is known about impact, identify evidence gaps, and assess the strength of available findings.
Tools and frameworks: Methodologies for evaluating democracy work. We are developing assessment tools, prioritisation frameworks, and evidence synthesis approaches. These are shared for others to use and refine.
Contact us if you are interested in exploring these tools.
Organisation evaluations: Assessments of civil society organisations working on democratic challenges. We examine theory of change, track record, and organisational capacity. Our evaluation work is in its early stages, and we are continuing to develop and improve our assessment methodologies.
